When I say Calgary Stampede wedding, you probably think of cowboy hats, horses and jeans. That is not this wedding! But Denise and Joel's wedding was so uniquely "Calgary" in many other ways. The last weekend in June this past summer was basically the hottest day of the year all day long. When Denise and Joel started planning their wedding on the Stampede Grounds at the Rotary house the week before the Calgary Stampede, they knew they would have an opportunity for some very unique photos since the midway would be partly built. Denise & Joel's wedding day started with a Traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony. If you have never attended one, there are a couple parts. Before the ceremony begins, the groom and his groomsmen have to complete several challenges or "door games" before the bridesmaids and her family will let him into the house. Once they let the groom in, the formal part of the ceremony begins. The bride and groom, dressed in beautiful red outfits, present sweet tea to their parent and other relatives. The bride and groom are then presented with a gift, usually in a red envelope.
The rest of Denise and Joel's wedding day took place at the Calgary Stampede Grounds. There are several advantages to getting married at the Stampede, including access to the entire grounds and the Stampede Trolley (which is really fun despite the lack of air conditioning or shocks of any kind!). Denise and Joel's wedding day was filled with so much love and laughter, plus I have to say they might have had the best bridal party ever!
