In Calgary, we see a lot of rustic styled weddings. While these are lovely, I always get excited when I meet a couple with a different plan! Melanie and Wilson planned an elegant 1920s themed wedding reception at the Carriage House Inn. They focused on lots of fun details that wove their theme together. Melanie and Wilson started their wedding day with a beautiful outdoor garden ceremony at the Calgary Zoo. One of my favourite perks of having part or all of your wedding at the zoo is that you have access to all the beautiful spots on the island for photos! Surprisingly, the dinosaur area has some of the best hidden spots... as long as you can hold off the busy Saturday afternoon crowds!
We also snuck in some portrait time with the bride and groom downtown before heading to the hotel. The classic architectural element on Stephen Avenue paired perfectly with the 1920s details Melanie and Wilson included.
One of my favourite moments from Melanie and Wilson's wedding day was an intimate traditional tea ceremony. This was important to Wilson's family and they chose to have a private ceremony with both immediate families.
I have been to the Carriage House many times. Melanie & Wilson's reception was in a banquet hall that is a little hidden. We discovered an incredible hallway with some lovely details for bonus portraits!
Once all the formal events of the day were done, Melanie changed into a sequinned flapper dress and the 1920s dance party began! This is truly my favourite part of any wedding day: when couples really embrace their own ideas.
